This beautiful artifact of antique fashion was the top of a dress which was at some point severed from its skirt-- perhaps due to severe deterioration/damage. It's made of a summer-weight wool challis with a stunning animalic print underneath pink rosebuds. It is lined with a sturdy but breathable linen fabric. The front has shaping busks which feel like they are made of wood or bone. The dropped shoulder seam has extremely tight pleating which leads into dramatic sleeves, characteristic of the period. The buttons are covered in mauve silk which also trims the sleeves. The entire piece is hand-sewn.

There are many scattered age related flaws (this piece is close to 200 years old!), but the fabric is sturdy and wearable. This imperfect relic of the mid 19th century allows you to wear without guilt! Open for reinterpretation it as part of your contemporary style. It is also perfect for research or display, chock full fascinating details . It does not have any closures, but can be added if so desired.
