1980s BodyMap Safety Pin Spandex Set
$2000
$1000
BodyMap was a highly influential label in the 1980s, however pieces by them are rare to come by and very collectible. BodyMap's layered and body-con fashions, highly influenced by punk and club culture at the time, presented a rare combination of avant-garde yet "functional" and "comfortable" ready-to-wear clothing. This set of a spandex crop top and pants are composed of a textile (as most often with BodyMap) that was a collaboration with Hilde Smith. The printed spandex crop top has a safety pin and bath chain fringe embellishment on the front in the style of Judy Blame. There is also a matching pair of printed spandex pants. Both are very stretchy. The set resembles spandex costumes made for dancer, Michael Clark, in the 80s (see last image). There is some rust on the safety pins and bath chain, but the pieces are in excellent wearable condition. The pieces are unlabeled but have been authenticated by an auction house -- they are most likely samples or runway pieces.
